📘 3つの形（原級・比較級・最上級）

• 原級：そのままの形（tall）
• 比較級：「より〜」（taller / more beautiful）
• 最上級：「最も〜」（tallest / most beautiful）

📘 比較級・最上級の作り方

① 短い語：-er / -est

• tall → taller → tallest
• ※ つづり：big → bigger（子音重ね）／ easy → easier（y→i）／ large → larger（e のみ追加）

② 長い語（3音節以上など）：more / most

• beautiful → more beautiful → most beautiful
• important → more important → most important

③ 不規則変化（暗記）

far	farther / further	farthest / furthest

※ 英語の不規則な比較変化は数が少なく、名詞や副詞のように無数にあるわけではありません。日常で使うものは、上の表と次の”意味で形が変わる”語でほぼカバーできます。

• old：older / oldest（年齢・古さ全般）／ elder / eldest（兄弟姉妹の年長：my elder brother）
• late：later / latest（時間が「より遅い・最新の」）／ latter / last（順序が「後者・最後の」）
• far：farther / farthest（距離）／ further / furthest（距離に加えて「さらなる・程度」：further information）

※ このほか near → next、in → inner のような古風・特殊な形もありますが、まずは上記を押さえれば十分です。

📘 比較級の使い方（than）

「A は B より〜」は 比較級 ＋ than。

■ He is taller than his brother. （彼は弟より背が高い。）
■ This book is more interesting than that one.

📘 最上級の使い方（the ＋ -est ＋ in / of）

「〜の中で最も…」は the ＋ 最上級。範囲は in（場所・集団） か of（複数・期間）。

■ He is the tallest in his class. （クラスで一番背が高い。）
■ She is the best of the three. （3人の中で一番上手。）

※ 副詞の最上級では the を省略できます：He runs (the) fastest.

📘 比較級・最上級の強調

• 比較級の強調（ずっと〜）：much / even / far / a lot / still ＋ 比較級
  　■ much better ／ far more difficult （✗ very better）
• 最上級の強調（断然）：by far / much ＋ the ＋ 最上級
  　■ by far the best

🚩 ネイティブはこう感じる

① than のあとは口語で目的格

• He’s taller than me.（口語）／ than I am.（ていねい・正式）

② one of the ＋ 最上級 ＋ 複数名詞

「最も〜なものの1つ」は、後ろが複数形になります。

■ It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. （✗ one of the best movie）

③ 比較級 ＋ than any other ＋ 単数（最上級の意味）

■ He is taller than any other student. （ほかのどの生徒より背が高い＝一番）

④ 〔上級〕the が付く比較級

「2つのうちでより〜なほう」は the ＋ 比較級。

■ He is the taller of the two. （2人のうち背が高いほう。）

📘 まとめ

• 短い語は -er/-est、長い語は more/most
• good→better→best などの不規則は暗記
• 比較級は than、最上級は the ＋ -est ＋ in/of
• 比較級の強調は much/even/far（very は不可）
